Hey Reader, You may have heard that your core is weak and that it's the primary cause of your back or hip pain. However, this oversimplified explanation can leave you with a fixed mindset about something as complex and uncertain as pain. Believing that "corrective core" exercises are the sole solution to alleviate back or hip pain can make you feel overly cautious and ill-prepared. Our mindset and beliefs about pain and other health issues can either leave us feeling hopeless, scared, and full of doubt about our future, or they can be viewed as an opportunity for growth and strength development. It's crucial to understand that pain doesn't necessarily indicate damage; it's a signal for change. One key concept to grasp is that strength is not the only aspect of physical ability that can improve and support muscle health. Muscles serve a broader purpose than just providing strength and stability. Often overlooked in pain management is the improvement of muscle speed and power. What's the point of building muscles to handle load and stress if they can't react quickly or generate power? I admit that in the past, I made the mistake of telling people what not to do, which turned out to be more harmful than helpful in the long run. These so-called "magic pill" exercises won't work any better than a strategic strength and conditioning plan that focuses on gradual exposure and progression over time—the only "hack" you need to overcome pain. Unfortunately, not many are sharing the truth you need to hear. Please feel free to share this perspective on back pain and a "weak" core with a friend or family member who might benefit from it. As always, if you're interested in getting stronger in a way that improves your squat, boosts upper body strength, and enhances your longevity, I'd love to connect with you. Be Resilient Strengths Transformed, Redefine the Norm Hey Reader, I was just talking to one of the people I coach about how little mindset gets spoken about in health and fitness. Being diagnosed with a disc herniation... Being told your hormones are out of balance... Being told you should stay away from certain exercises or positions... How do you react to and think about those things? It may look entirely different from how someone else would react to being told the same things. For some it...
"Strengths transformed: Redefine the norm" Be Resilient Hey Reader, So if you've seen my social media lately, I just spent 3 intense but super fun days out in Phoenix, Arizona diving deeper into learning all about how to get faster & more explosive. What else could be better for physical health than to level up your performance? I know some of you may not identify or see yourselves as an athlete. But as Bill Bowerman (track and field coach & founder of Nike) once said: “If you have a body,...
